Rare Berthe Amoss Signed First Edition Unpublished Book Lot Personal Items #1

Description: Huge lot of Pass Christian, MS and New Orleans native and children’s author Berthe Amoss books. Including never before published books, signed and personal copies. Rare editions. We acquired what remained of Mrs. Amoss’ personal collection directly from the executor of her estate. we have been selling through her personal collection for a couple years, and now we are close to the end. we are hoping that someone who loves her work will take this into their personal collection and cherish it. So many rare and one of a kind items here. All books come from a smoke-free home. They were in storage for a while so they are a bit musty. Please see individual descriptions below. 1. “The Plight Before Christmas”. This is one of only two known copies of this handmade book. It is hand drawn and hand colored. And though it is very similar to the other copy in our other lot, they are not identical. Hand bound with plastic wire. Toning, creasing, spotting. Pencil numbers to mark the pages, done by the author. This book would later become the title “what did you lose, Santa?“ 2. “The marvelous catch of old Hannibal” signed hardcover in clipped dust jacket. It is signed on the backside of the first page, and again opposite the copyright page where it is inscribed to possibly one of her children. No stated edition. Lots of scuffing and rubbing and spotting and toning to dust jacket. Along with some chipping and creasing. Overall in only fair condition. Binding is good. Still holding. But a little loose. Some spotting and toning throughout. 3. “New Orleans delicious dishes Creole cooking for children” originally issued with a miniature bottle of Tabasco pepper, not included. This is a stated second edition from 1991. Some spots and marks to exterior soft boards. No writing inside of the book. 4. “The witch cat“ paperback 1977, no stated edition. Some rubbing and some chipping to front cover. Less so to back cover. Some toning. No writing inside of the book. 5. “What did you lose Santa”. First edition, first printing hardcover with no dust jacket as issued. Spotting, toning, scratching and bumping to cover. Binding is good. No writing inside of the book. 6. “Lost Magic” (copy 1) hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. First printing. Throughout there are paper bookmarks with the authors notes on them. Book has slight spine slant. Some marks to Outer page edges. Some bumping and rubbing two corners and edges of dust jacket. 7. “Lost Magic” (copy 2). Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. First printing. A little dusty. Some bumping and rubbing at corners and edges of dust jacket and boards. Binding is tight. No writing inside of the book. 8. “The great sea monster” This is a school edition, from 1991. (The original is from 1975) Cover has a bunch of scratches, creases, dings, bumps, scuffs. Interior has some marks. But no writing. A fairly hard to find title by the author. 9. “Secret lives” this is the first printing of the Dell yearling edition paperback. Though it is in OK condition, with massive toning, it does have notes written by the author on the first two pages in pencil. Quite a keepsake to have her words written as such. Binding is good. Scuffing, bumping, rubbing, spotting on cover. 10. “Secret lives” hardback with unclipped dust jacket. Signed an inscribed by the author. Stated first edition. Massive scuffing and wrinkling to dust jacket. Small Remains of another dust jacket stuck to back cover. Lots of spotting to edges of pages. Along with library marking on outer page edges. Scuffing, bumping, chipping to edges and corners of dust jacket. Some rubbing to edges of boards. Some fading. 11. “the Mockingbird Song”. Second printing of the first edition, second state dust jacket. Included because this has the authors book stamp on the first blank page. Dusty. Scuffing to edges of boards. Some wrinkling and superficial scratching to dust jacket. Some tiny indentions. Binding is tight. Pages show no writing. 12. “10 steps to publishing children’s books” hardcover. A little dusty. Stated first edition. No writing inside of the book. Some bumping and rubbing to boards. Binding is good. 13. “Draw yourself into the arc with Noah and his family” book is still in shrink wrap. Looks like a few spots through the shrink wrap, some bumping to a couple corners. Dusty. 14. “pencil prayer” paper back from 2006. no stated edition. Possibly Self published. no writing inside of the book. Binding is very good. Some toning to cover. Along with some bumping and rubbing it edges. 15. “Charles Dickens a Christmas Carol“. In this handmade folder there are storyboards and a manuscript for an abridged version of the Dickens masterpiece. Obviously all of this is one of a kind. It’s only in moderately fair condition, with lots of glue stains, small rips, Yellowing and toning. This was obviously a work in progress, but extremely rare. And finally two mostly blank journals started by the author with some drawings and notes for possibly another book or two. One has about 40 pages written in it the other maybe a half a dozen. Also there is a letter from her publisher. Some of her original Christmas cards. Some personal correspondence from friends. Bookmarks pamphlets and some other pieces of ephemera.
