Description: This is a stunning rare pair of miniature bronze sculptures depicting Michelangelo's Medici brothers, Giuliano & Lorenzo de Medici. The original statues are life size carved marble and are displayed at the Cappelle Medicee in Florence, Italy. These bronze miniatures were produced in the 1840s by well known French sculpture Pierre Louis Frederic Sauvage (1786 - 1857). One is signed on the side 'R.tion Sauvage'. The craftsmanship is excellent, with high relief sharp lifelike details throughout. These were likely a Grand Tour souvenir picked up by a wealthy tourist on a visit in Europe. Each is a very thick heavy cast bronze, weighing approximately 3 pounds each. The approximate size of each is 6.5 inches high, 2.25 inches deep and 2.25 inches wide. The overall condition shows signs of age-related wear being displayed/handled/used, over the lifetimes of several owners. There is variation to the surface patina with lighter and darker tones, please review the photos for further assessment. An amazing find to have a matched pair like this - great to use for bookends or displayed on a table, awesome presentation quality. Shipping includes signature delivery and insurance.
