Description: This is an Original and VERY RARE Edition of this UNION ALMANAC FOR 1852 Published in Baltimore in 1851 by Cugle & Berger, No. 254 Market Street. Measuring 6.75" x 8" and containing 36 pp. illustrated throughout with textual woodcuts, including a few portraits of important American Political and Oratorical figures, ALL putting forth their argument as to why we should maintain or dissolve Slavery and/or The Union (see photos). They include such notables as Daniel Webster speaking for several pages on Washington, The Constitution and the Fugitive Slave Law passed in 1850, Edward Everett on the occasion of the laying of the foundation of the Washington Monument and also on the Supreme Court, Lewis Cass on the Consequences of Disunion, Jefferson Davis on "The Exploits of General Taylor" on the Rio Grande fighting the Mexican army. The almanac also includes a mini-biography with portrait of Millard Fillmore, then POTUS, succeeding Zachary Taylor upon his death, and an illustrated poem on "The Storming of Vera Cruz." I found NOTHING on this almanac. I considered the possibility that it might be the same almanac that was published in the same year under the same title by both King & Baird and John H. Simon in Philadelphia, but neither of those appear to be politically oriented as concerns slavery and The Union. On top of that, Worldcat locates only one copy of both almanacs and absolutely NO COPIES with this imprint or content. It is a true Rarity!PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY ALMANACS THAT WE WILL BE LISTING ON eBay OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS.
