Description: DescriptionLate 1700's- early 1800's Large and Rare Persian Marquetry Wooden Box known as "Khatam Kari", which is a technique renown for intricate mosaic decoration of stars, florals and geometric patterns. Looking closely at the details this piece also has hand painted details and what appears to be scattered lettering or some type of personalization. Khatam Kari means "the work of inlays"; the oldest examples of which date back 700 years. This technique consists of inlaying fine pieces of ebony, teak, jujube, orange tree, rose wood and camel bone to create the stunning mosaic marquetry. The interior of the box is lined in old hand made block printed paper. Measurements:13" length, 6" height and 8" width.Condition notations: heavily crazed surfaces from age, with wonderful patina. The box has old repairs including replaced escutcheon plate, lock hardware and ring plate. No key, the pull ring is missing, replaced with a cord. Scattered missing sections of detail with some lifting. This old authentic piece surely has a story to tell.Shipping We assure you that each item will be packaged with the utmost care and professionalism.
