Description: RARE Unique KNOX TWENTY Vintage Homburg Black 100% Fur Felt Hat, made in 1920's in Beautiful Vintage Condition. Size 7 1/2 A staple for every gentleman from the 1900's to the 1950's, the black Homburg is a timeless piece. It was sometimes referred to as the "Conservative Fedora" as it was the more sophisticated/formal version of men's hatwear. In 1972, the hat makes another big splash on the fashion scene when Michael Corleone sports one in The Godfather, giving rise to the new slang, "Gangster Hat" or "Mobster Hat." * Most Vintage Homburgs around today were produced by the Dobbs Co. This Knox of Manhattan Twenty version is a rare find! *100% HIGH QUALITY FUR FELT, the Twenty sold as KNOX's upper crust hat, originally selling for $20! (vs the Fifteen for $15 and later the "everyday" Fifth Avenue for $7) While not stated on the hat, the age and maker's mark indicate that this is 100% Beaver Felt. You can also notice the quality of the Twenty in the very fine stitching that attaches the sweatband to the hat. This is a true, quality hat. * ORIGINAL SILK RIBBON : This hat sports a unique silk ribbon combo with a Dark Chestnut bound brim with the characteristic pencil curl edge, and 2” wide silk grosgrain hatband in Dark Cocoa Brown. Vintage silk grosgrain has a beautiful, soft reflective property that seems to almost change intensity of colours in the sunlight. Spectacular! *Rich colour combination compliments the true black fur felt for a softer and more bespoke look True to the Homburg, the more dress weight fur felt can be restyled easily by hand. I have shown it with the traditional centre gutter crown, Fedora pinches, and the classic Derby/Bowler rounded crown. CONDITION: Purchased from an East Coast estate in its original hat box, this hat is in wonderful vintage condition. The felt looks amazing with no holes or stains or evidence of moth damage. The silk grosgrain ribbons are clean and beautiful with no frays, cracks or stains. I have shown all angles of the hat in the photos. The outside of the hat and the underside of the brim are in perfect condition!! PLEASE NOTE: As with many vintage hats, the leather sweatband shows signs of age AND there has been a piece of the sweatband removed where the previous owner kept the printed name for posterity. ****SEE PHOTOS ABOVE. **** While you cannot notice any of this while wearing, you may wish to replace the sweatband due to its age. The silk liner has some light staining/ink spots also visible in the photos. MEASUREMENTS: This hat has standard Homburg proportions: Crown is 5 5/8in, brim is 2.25in, and the hat is marked size 7 1/2 Truly a BEAUTIFUL hat and a wonderful piece of history!
