Description: Up for sale here is this rebuild kit for the Project/One Mark III B receiver. This includes all the parts you need to rebuild a Project/One Mark IIIB (including new dial lights), and includes the correct size replacement main filter capacitors. This does not include replacement output transistors or any fuses. You don't normally need to replace the outputs unless your receiver is blowing fuses or not coming out of protection. The correct replacement output transistors are two MJ21195G (replaces Hirel 649, on bottom) and two MJ21196G (replaces Hirel 218, on top), available here. Please don't buy any of the fake Chinese transistors on eBay--those are counterfeit and will blow up.Before we start, let's talk about Project/One a little. Project/One was the store brand for Playback Stereo back in the 1970s and 1980s. Project/One gear has a similar look to vintage Pioneer, Toshiba, and similar equipment, and has about the same build quality for the most part. There are a lot of rumors that Pioneer actually built the Project/One gear, but this is not true. What I have heard is that the Playback store salespeople would tell prospective buyers that Project/One was built by Pioneer, but eventually Pioneer found out and made them stop. There were a number of Japanese companies in the 1970s and 1980s that built gear for stores like Radio Shack (Realistic), Pacific Stereo (Concept), etc, and I believe it's the same story with Project/One. Project/One gear is nice stuff, both in looks and sound, but there are some common issues that I have noticed. The lever switches are a weak point--the contacts oxidize and channels will drop out from the dirty contacts. It is hard to get these clean--I have to blast the levers full of Deoxit D5 from all angles, both the front and the back, and then I work the levers up and down MANY times, in order to get them working properly again. You could probably remove and disassemble the lever switches in order to clean them properly, but then you risk permanently damaging the switch. The meters are another weak point--for whatever reason, Project/One meters frequently go bad. I have seen a lot of Project/One receivers with four meters where none of them work properly--some will just not move at all, some will move a little, and some will be stuck to one side or the other. The meters have little adjustment screws on the backs, and if you wiggle those it is possible sometimes to get them working again. Otherwise it is possible to replace the meters--I believe the meters on the SX-780 and similar Pioneers are pretty much drop-in replacements for many of the Project/One meters, but I don't know for sure. You may notice that the top clear light diffuser in your Project/One is browned, melted a little, or possibly damaged more than that. The original incandescent wedge lamps will toast the light diffuser, and the heat is trapped by the top cover so it will just keep roasting the diffuser until it is damaged. I have included new replacement warm white LED wedge lamps, which are plug-and-play replacements for the old lights. Because Project/One was a store brand, and Playback stores have been gone a long time, there is basically no service information available for Project/One gear. It's easy to find service manuals for Pioneer, Sansui, etc, but if you ever find a service manual for a Project/One receiver or amp, let me know. Also, some Project/One gear has board markings for capacitors and transistors, and some does not, or may have markings for one but not the other. This means you will need to take A LOT of clear pictures of your equipment before you begin working on it. This kit includes replacements for all the electrolytic capacitors in the receiver, including the two large chassis-mount capacitors, which are replaced with Chemi-Con 10000 uf 80v caps. The new caps are the same diameter as the old ones so they will fit the old clamps perfectly. The kit also includes replacements for almost all the transistors on all the boards except the tuner board. Transistors frequently age worse than the capacitors, so you have to replace them when you're doing a rebuild. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts, the same ones I use when I rebuild vintage equipment. Capacitors are Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, Nichicon Muse, Panasonic FC, Wima film, and Chemi-Con for the main filters. Transistors are Fairchild/Onsemi. The Project/One Mark IIIB uses an oddball relay, and there is no modern replacement for it that I know of. You can either clean the old relay or replace it with a new similar one. Replacing it involves either drilling new holes in the circuit board or gluing the relay under the chassis and running wires to the board (my preference). The kit does not include a relay, but I have a good replacement here. I have rebuilt a few Project/One receivers, and they are nice receivers that deserve to be brought back to life! This kit will help you do that. You should know what you're doing and have a decent soldering iron, heat-sink compound, and a dim-bulb tester with 100W incandescent bulb. Please see my pictures for details. US shipping and handling is $8, and international is $28. If you have any questions, please ask. Looking for more parts? I have power switches, feet, pushbuttons, top case screws, bottom screws, faceplate screws, white LED fuse lamps, blue LED fuse lamps, 6.3v bi-pin bulbs, 8v bi-pin bulbs, 12v bi-pin bulbs, wired 8v 60ma bulbs, new power cords, new main capacitors for the Marantz 1060/2230, wired Pioneer speaker plug replacements, new 630v yellow film capacitors at 38 different values, new 1200v yellow film capacitors at 15 values, a large variety of transistors for vintage stereo repair, new Wima film capacitors for stereo repair, new 250v yellow film crossover capacitors, and more.
