OverviewTeton Supply Co™ Teton-Bond™ 130 is a high-performance Petrobond®* clay based foundry sand that is professionally formulated, produced, and quality inspected in the USA. This product has very high green strength and is very easy to use compared to most other foundry sand products. Supported Applications-Mold for Precious and Non-Precious casting (non-ferrous metals including gold, silver, aluminum, brass, bronze, zinc, etc)-Use as a facing sand with other sand systems such as water-bonded greensand.-Backing sand for delft-clay in order to increase delft clay utilization.Directions/Use Notes-Sand should be riddled (broken up/screened) prior to placing against pattern.-Moderately heavy ramming or pressing is required for optimal mold performance.-Appropriate mold release should be used with all patterns to avoid sticking and to maximize detail reproduction (Teton-Part™ or similar is recommended)Cold Sensitivity: Dry and Powdery Sand that does not hold form-Use and store above 65F-Sand may become powdery or dry if exposed to cold.Regenerating Sand (fix dry sand):-Add a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol to the sand (ideally in a fine mist using bottle sprayer) and mix well. Generally, less than 1/2 teaspoon Alcohol required for 10lb evenly spread through the sand.-Always allow alcohol to evaporate completely before attempting to use sand.Reusing Sand/Black Crust-Sand is mostly reusable per casting.-Small amount of black crust is formed around the casting.-This crust is two parts: 1. Black sand. 2. Grey, "crispy" sand-Only the grey sand that feels "crispy" next to the casting should be discarded.Product Volume/Weight Info-10lb of this product fills a volume of around 200 cubic inches (Approx 6"X6"X6" cube) when moderately rammed (packed).*=Petrobond® is a registered trademark of Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Sand Base TypeRound-Grained Silica (premium grade)Binding AgentPetrobond Clay and OilService Temp Limit~2050F (Bronze)Performance AdditivesNone.Ramming PressureMed: Ramming/Pressing is Required for mold strength. Finger pressure alone is not enough: requires hand tools.MaintenanceGenerally not needed within service life. Spray isopropyl alcohol and mix well if sand appears dry. Reuse85-95%. Depends on pour temps and practices. Pouring overheated metal will rapidly degrade sand. Draft2-3% Draft per side is Required for pattern removal.Silica Content90%+ Silica content comes from potential contaminants in petrobond binder plus sand base itself. (see SDS) **Do not use indoors without adequate capture ventilation**Special ProceduresThis sand is cold sensitive and may seem to be dried out if exposed to cold. See instructions on bag for remedy (spray alcohol on it, mix, and allow to evaporate). Not appropriate for use below 65F as supplied--additional oil may be added to increase cold tolerance (at some expense of detail/surface finish). **Note: our foundry sand fineness ratings (mesh value) comes from an average value of the finished sand mixture including the binder powder (which itself contains very fine iron oxide powder in addition to the oil-absorbing clay). So, for this 130 mesh product, it will contain a slightly coarser silica base (around 120 mesh) along with a smaller amount of very fine binder powder that averages out to 130 mesh.
