Page 3 has an item noting: "...arrived here from Mount Vernon the President of the United States...in company with the principal gentlemen of this town & neighborhood, set out to view the country adjacent to the River Potowmack in order to fix upon a proper situation for the grand Columbian Federal city...". Remember that at this time the federal government was located in New York, although soon to move to Phila. later in the year.
