Precision Scale On3 Scale Brass 37 Ton Heisler Locomotive

Description: Brass On3 Scale West Side Lumber Company No. 3 Two-Truck Heisler Locomotive – This is a fine example of the first-rate Korean model-builder’s skills demonstrating great attention to detail and imported by the famous Precision Scale Company, Crown Series, factory painted with serial number 11 of 18 models. A beautifully crafted scale model of one of the little known Heisler locomotive in narrow-gauge (36”). Smaller than many geared locomotives, this ¼” – 1’0” reproduction is only 33’ in scale (8.25”), coupler to coupler. These very interesting, geared locomotives were made originally by The Stearns Manufacturing Company with production beginning in 1891 and then, in 1907, by the Heisler Locomotive Works of Erie, Pennsylvania. The design was created by Charles L. Heisler (of New York) and refined by George Swabb who really perfected the locomotive and made it the success it became with production continuing fifty years until 1941. They were made carefully with great attention to detail and were known by production quality as well as working performance. While the Heisler never had sales nearing Lima Shay or Climax, there were actually more Heisler Locomotives made in the last ten years of production than Shays in Lima, Ohio – a very successful design and with high durability as the three Heisler's made in 1900 are still in existence today.This prototype (No. 3) was made in June 1900 (Shop No. 1041) for West Side Lumber in 36” gauge converted to standard gauge when it became Pickering Lumber Company No.3 and then back to narrow-gauge again when sold to Big Trees and Roaring Camp N.G. RR in Fenton, CA. This fine reproduction exhibits all of the careful detailing expected including accurate steel frame details with wooden bumpers, cylinder details including steam supply and exhaust distribution lines and fittings, connecting crank fittings, steam air compressor with related valves and lines, the steel all-weather cab with fully detailed boiler backhead controls, fuel oil bunker with fill lid and vent line in place and the water tank beneath is complete including sand box at the rear with fill caps in place – everything ready to begin operations in the field. This unique and one-of-a-kind model has been beautifully weathered and thoughtfully detailed to enhance and show-off all of the aspects of this wonderful locomotive. Everything from the boiler finish with streaks of residue from rain, steam and grime, cast steel trucks counter-weighted with pinon gears coated in grease, brake shoes, air brake cylinder and hangers plus air lines covered, steam generator with exhaust line, accurate steel girder frame details with dirt and grime, boiler domes with pressure relief valves, steam whistle even with pull cord in place, steam generator, brass bell and steel boiler jacket are all weathered carefully – all of this major effort creates a model that really recreates what this locomotive might have looked like when in use. Engineer and fireman included for scale purposes. The hardcover book “The Heisler Locomotive, 1891-1941” by Benjamin F. G. Kline, published in 1982 will also be included with this exceptional model. I am a collector - not a dealer - and this amazing model, which was purchased new in the box, we left at the store (for about ten years) awaiting its turn to be weathered and detailed by an artist much in demand and who has really created an true art-form. It was brought home in April, 2023 and is now being offered for sale so that we might expand into other areas of brass locomotive collecting mainly different railway equipment away from geared locomotives.
