In 1976 she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. After suffering a cerebral hemorrhage in March 1977, she attended Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Later in 1977 she wrote Chosen to Serve recounting her experiences surrounding the cerebral hemorrhage and the decision that changed her life. In 1981, after receiving a Master's degree at Columbia Graduate School of Bible and Missions in Columbia, South Carolina, Carolyn returned home to Danville. Her Christian walk led her to a ministry in the hospital and nursing homes, as well as counseling anyone who expressed a need. She has given her personal testimony at numerous public speaking engagements throughout Virginia and North Carolina. She welcomes every opportunity to share her ideas about the work she has been called to do believing it is molded and shaped by the sovereign Lord, who causes all things to work together for the good of His children.
