Description: This is a rare piece as it clearly predates WWI. A 13" square silk handerkerchief with a sentimental verse titles "Mother". Around the fringes are the flags of nations with some naive representations. The UK is not representented by the Union Flag but by the flag of the UK Merchant Marine. Scotland is represented as a separate country. The early date is shown by thwe inclusion of enemy combatant countries to be, Germany and Austria. Ireland is represneted as a single coun try with the Green Harp flag, which was one of many flags to represent both Protestant and Catholic Ireland. Egypt and Turkey are repsented together by a single flag despite Turkey not ruling Egypt in this period. An interesting piece of social history and on the common American misconceptions of world affairs. Very good condition with a small whole in the left hand fold margin.
