Description: I have for sale a medal from the Belgian Congo that I assume was made during or just after WWII. The medal looks to be bronze, it is 2 3/4 inches in diameter and in a high grade circulated condition. Arthur Dupagne was the medalists and it was struck by J. Fonson. On the obverse it shows the high relief bust of PIERRE RYCKMANS with his name at the top rim. To the left field it reads GOUVERNEUR GENERAL - DU CONGO BELGE. Ryckmans was a Belgian civil servant and Governor General of the Belgian Congo from 1934 till 1946. On the reverse it shows an African man tilling the soil. My translation for wording at the rim is The Congo At Work For Allied Victory. Please see more in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (18,018)
