Description: EXTRA INFOPHOTO BULL STREET FRIENDS' MEETING HOUSE BIRMINGHAM THE QUAKER MEETING HOUSE AT BULL STREET IS A RED BRICK BUILDING SET BACK FROM THE ROAD IN A COURTYARD. A QUAKER PLACE OF WORSHIP HAS STOOD HERE SINCE 1703. THE PRESENT BUILDING DATES FROM 1933 AND WAS DESIGNED BY HUBERT LIDBETTER A QUAKER ARCHITECT WHOSE WORK INCLUDES FRIENDS' HOUSE THE QUAKER HEADQUARTERS IN LONDON OPPOSITE EUSTON STATION. THE STYLE HE USED HERE IS AUSTERE NEO-GEORGIAN AN 18TH CENTURY CLASSICAL STYLE BUT PARED DOWN IN KEEPING WITH THE QUAKER EMPHASIS ON PLAINNESS OR SIMPLICITY. HIS DESIGN IS CUBE SHAPED AND HAD TWO STOREYS; A THIRD STOREY WAS ADDED LATER TO HOUSE A WARDEN. THE BUILDING AND ITS HISTORY ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL HERE .JUST VISIBLE TO THE LEFT OF THE MEETING HOUSE ARE THE PRIORY ROOMS BUILT IN 2002.
