Before the runway was extended westwards this used to be the location of Hungate Common a small hamlet situated in the triangle between Sandy Lane and a minor road now called Hungate Common leading north-easterly where it connects with Rectory Road. No trace of the hamlet remains. The villagers were rehoused in prefabricated Orlit huts converted to domestic use a short distance further to the north near the junction of Rectory Road and Sandy Lane > Link.
