Description: MGM / Warner Brothers Cartoons (2003) Choose a Character and condition (Loose or Mint on Card) from the Pull Down Menu Tom and Jerry is an American animated series of short films created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. It centers on a rivalry between its two title characters, Tom, a cat, and Jerry, a mouse, and many recurring characters, based around slapstick comedy. The MGM cartoon characters of Tom and Jerry, plus the associated characters, were introduced by PEZ in 1980 on 3.9 footless stems. The characters included Tom, Jerry, Spike, Tyke, and Droopy Dog. Tuffy was added to the mix in 1987. Thin feet were added later in 1987 and Tom, Jerry were modified slightly. Austria 3.9 stems went to thick feet in 1990. In 1991, Droopy Dog was on a thick footed Green 4.9 Austria stem. The ears were painted on rather than loose and movable like the previous version. Droopy Dog quickly moved to a 4.9 Hungary stem and the ears were much longer. In 1994, Droopy Dog began a switch to Slovenia stems with #5 country code, but no country name. The ears shortened again like the first painted on Austria ears. There were three color variations, light green, blue, and red. A problem with the blue dye color interacting with the plastic package covering has made almost every blue stem appear damaged. Those dispensers removed from the wrapping early did not suffer the color fading damage. In 1997, Droopy was issued on a red Slovenia stem with the country name stamped on the side as well as the #5 country code. Spike was initially on a red 4.9 Austria stem in 1991. At the start of 1992, Spike was shifted to a bright Pink Austria stem. When the Austria plant was closed down, Spike was shifted to the new Hungary plant later in 1992 and back to a red stem. Spike saw stem color and slight face color changes when Tom & Jerry were re-done in 1997, but kept the same design.
