Peru Incas 1783 Burial Ethnology Rare Engraving Religion Latin America

Description: Rare and Exceptional engraving published in 1783 on the religion of the Incas and the burial of the “greats of Peru” This large and superb engraving is taken from the famous work Ceremonies and Religious Customs of All the Peoples of the World published in Amsterdam in 1783 and distributed in France by Laporte, bookseller on rue des noyers in Paris. The engravings are drawn by Bernard Picard and other artists. Extraordinary historical and ethnological document. • Format of the engraving in folio 41/25 cm, very light watering, good condition for a document which is over 230 years old. • We only sell authentic and period documents. • We accept payment by check • In case of group purchases we reduce the postal costs • We have many historical documents to discover in our EBay store. Don't hesitate to subscribe to receive new announcements as a priority.  This monumental work was one of the first glimmers of the Age of Enlightenment; its concept is indeed radical and revolutionary, since it immediately places all the religions of the world on an equal footing, thus lastingly transforming the perception of the religious phenomenon, not only through comparison, but above all by reducing religion to social and cultural behavior, customs linked to a history and a people. From such a book, the sacred is observed as a phenomenon, a characteristic. If all the engraved work (admirable) is by Picart, who relied on numerous books for his representations which he wanted to be as accurate as possible, we too often forget that the work was the fruit of a close collaboration with Bernard, who was responsible for the writing.
