PERFORMER IN POPEYE COMIC CHARACTER OUTFIT 1940's ON PROMOTIONAL CARD

Description: This is an original promotional card that shows a halftone image made from a photograph of a man dressed as comic character Popeye. His legs are crossed at an uncomfortable angle beneath him. We are estimating that the Popeye outfit he is wearing dates circa 1929 to 1934. The card was probably made slightly later, most likely in the 1940's. The card measures 7 inches by 5 1/2 inches. On the back of the card is stamped, “Sunny Sue and Lonesome Cowboy, 304 Shiffler Avenue, Williamsport, PA.” Penciled on the back is the word, “Dad”. There is a tack hole in the midpoint of the top white margin. One corner is creased. The other corners are slightly bumped. Sunny Sue and Lonesome Cowboy were probably country music performers but we don’t know what the connection is between them and the fellow dressed as Popeye. This card is from a collection of items connected with Country & Western performers which was accumulated by Bessie Auten from approximately 1942-1955 when she worked at the "Radio Coral". Bessie lived near & worked at the "Radio Coral" for a number of years. The "Radio Coral" was a Country & Western radio station located just outside of Montgomery, Pa. in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The pics clearly show the condition.
