Damzog while serving with the army in the Spanish American War and again in the Philippine-American War. His address label is affixed to the front pastedown with an address in Chicago where he lived after the war. Following this are photographs of soldiers sharping swords, a battle with explosions on a hill, and locals in both wars. The cavalry is photographed posed next to their horse and men are seen marching through towns. Photographs from the Philippines show young women in a market, men participating in a cock fight, and bathing children. Damzog was a butcher who immigrated to America about 1893 and enlisted in 1898 was the 1st Cavalry Regiment. During the Spanish American War he was stationed in Cuba and was involved in the Battle of San Juan Hill and the Siege of Santiago. By 1899 he was sent to the Philippines to replace a garrison that was sent to Peking to relieve the legation there during the Boxer Rebellion where they fought rebels mostly in small actions. He returned to the U.S. in 1903 where he settled in Chicago.A modest but interesting collection of photographs documenting the military career of a young man in two major conflicts at the turn-of-the-century.
