Description: Species: Otodus obliquusFormation: Ouled Abdoun BasinLocality: Khouribga, MoroccoAge: Eocene, 60-40 million years old A 1.88" inch Pathological Otodus obliquus Fossil Shark Tooth from Morocco. The enamel on this tooth is highly warped and grooved in the back. Otodus obliquus was a massive ancient shark in the same family as and was an ancestor to the well-known Otodus megalodon. An apex predator of its environment, estimates based on tooth and vertebra place the largest Otodus obliquus individuals at 26-30 feet long, nearly twice as long as the largest modern macropredatory sharks. Their teeth have distinctive large cusps on either side of the crown and are known for their well preserved sharp cutting edges, and the name genus Otodus means ear-shaped-tooth in ancient Greek.
