Description: Past Patterns PP#00031830s Full High Gown Sewing Pattern This 1830s Full High Gown sewing pattern is an original Past Patterns design★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★The 1830's Full High Gown is copied from an original in The Hermitage Clothing Collection. The Hermitage, located in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Hermitage gown is dated to the 1830's by its rectangular skirt panels and dropped shoulders with gigot sleeves. In 1836 the gigot sleeves became unfashionable and were replaced with a sleeve that had fullness below the elbow. Before 1836, fashion plates illustrated the hem at ankle length, but after 1836 the hem descended to the instep. The gown closes in the back with four hooks and eyes; one at the neck and three on the waistband.★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Multi-sized 08-26Bust 32 ½" - 48"Waist 24 ½" - 40"★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Fabric RequirementsSizes 08-20 requires 7 3/8 Yds. of 45 inch wide fabricSizes 22-26 requires 10 Yds. of 45 inch wide fabric.★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★The package includes historical notes on 1830s gowns, embroidery examples from the era, 10 pages of extensive notes and instructions on stitching and constructing the garment, plus 3 computer generated sheets of patterns, 1 36"x50", 1 36”x51” and 1 36"x45".★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Our patterns are printed on 20 lb. white paper and packaged in a reusable plastic. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 0003 Thanks for looking!
