Description: This unusual matching pair of side chairs is a variation of "cane seats" (or vice versa) in that they have an inset of 3/8-1/4" wood, pierced 60 times to create a star and surrounding designs. The chairs are full of master touches. Note the arched -- rather than straight -- back braces, the top with an intricate carved floral design. The seat not only curves inward from front to back (as does the pierced inset), but tapers as well. The sides and front have two -- not just one -- structural supports. And the front legs and front supports have all been spindle-carved. Sadly, there is no maker's name that I could see. Dimensions! The chair's back is 33-1/2" high and 14" wide. The top of the seat is 18-1/2" from the ground and is 16-1/4" at its widest and 16-1/2" from front to back. The front legs stand 16-1/2" apart; the back legs stand 14" apart. The chairs belonged to my late sister, Betsy, who was a collector and lived in Pittsburgh, PA all her life. You can assume these are Western PA, West VA, or Ohio-made and wood. Since her passing, I've kept them in a climate-controlled, indoor storage facility in Plainville, MA where you would pick them up. Thanks for reading!Rick
