Description: · There are a variety of sizes and looks to the confetti poodles but I honestly feel this is the cutest type. They are a little larger (6" tall) but they also happen to look the most like a poodle. I have a little poodle here at home and these guys actually look a lot like him! I love these!· Porcelain/ceramic· 1900-1919 - I am guessing at the age. Some things online say these are from 1860 but based on some of the things I say below it may be more like 1900. They have certainly been well loved through the years· Sitting up looking out · Hand painted· Small firing hole in the base helps to confirm authenticity· Antique white color· Made with a press mold with a “confetti” technique, introduced in the mid 1800s· Made in England – no maker’s mark but numbered4 802 The one on the right has been cracked in the back where it doesn’t show but I tried to be very clear about that in the photos. Honestly, I don’t ever see it because these are the type of thing that sit on a shelf and are enjoyed forever but of course it makes a difference in terms of value. · Staffordshire dog figurines were often placed on mantelpieces in 19th-century homes. They were mainly made in Staffordshire pottery· The earlier Staffordshire dogs were never marked, the body is hollow and they are light, plus any gilding will look worn and have a dull luster, and have firing flaws on the base· The only colors that will be UNDER the glaze are blue or black. All other enamels will have been painted OVER the glaze, which of course, makes those colors much more prone to wear and flaking.· They were dirty when I purchased them but I cleaned off the dust and dirt because I think that looks better – but they were dirty like they’re very old and some of that dirt remains for you to enjoy or clean - up to you : )· Older bases show signed of more unskilled labor, like paint drips around the bottom, like this one has on the underneath· There are freckles on one side of one of their face’s but the other have rubbed off in time, as I believe the gilding did. Please feel free to make an offer.
