Description: >Offered here is an old and original 1939 University of OREGON DUCKS U. of O. National Basketball Champions publication!! Please see all seven photos, as they are an important part of my description. This rare basketball publication was an on-campus magazine issued by the University of Oregon as an official "record" of the Ducks (aka the Oregon Webfoots back then) claiming the first-ever NCAA Basketball Championship. This publication "record" was originally sold at Pomeroy's Associated, "on the campus" in Eugene (their stamp is present on the front cover). Now known as the NCAA Final Four, this Oregon team dubbed as the "Tall Firs" defeated the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners in the Western NCAA Tournament and then beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in this inaugural NCAA Championship game. Head coach for this pioneering Ducks basketball team was Howard Hobson (member of the Basketball Hall of Fame). Players who starred for the Webfoots included starters Laddie Gale, Bobby Anet, Slim Wintermute, John Dick and Wally Johansen. The publication includes photographs, statistics for the Oregon team, and a feature entitled "How They Did It". The publication also features outstanding vintage advertising for Eugene, Oregon - the home of the Ducks!! I have had the privilege of selling the actual "game program" for this 1939 championship game ($5,400, on eBay in 2016)...the "Historical Record" publication I am offering here is the next best thing and nearly as rare, and a fine addition to any serious college basketball collection!! <>Condition: the guide shows only minimal age/handling faults....nice!! There are some sun stains present on both cover edges. The original owner had used this magazine as a sort of "blotter", with the front cover showing hard-to-see "indents" caused by a writing instrument (there are no pen marks).The binding staples show no rust! Presents as "crisp & clean" overall!
