Description: ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, RARE patch from the US Navy's Light Support Helicopter Squadron Thirty-Seven (HSL-37). This is their DETACHMENT ONE (DET-1) patch for their deployment to Hawaii. It says "DEFENDERS OF ALOHA". Easy Riders, tail code TH established at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii on July 3 1975 flying the SH-2F Seasprite LAMPS I. The squadron changed to the SH-60B Seahawk LAMPS III in 1992. As of 2011 is Navys oldest operational LAMPS squadron. LAMPS (Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System) squadrons provides helicopters to be embarked on surface ships escorts as frigates, destroyers and cruisers. The squadron celebrated 93,000 Class-A mishap-free flight hours in 2011. On September 2013 they received their first 4 MH-60R Seahawks and were redesignated HSM-37 January 2014. Since Oct 2006, the unit has operated the Virtual Flight Deck Training System to make deck direction training more realistic. This patch has "a thin black felt" backing, a "CUT Saw-Blade" border, has a "yellow twill" background, NO velcro, and the dimensions are shown in the photos...the ruler on the right is 6".This is from a retired US NAVY CAPTAIN's collection I just acquired, and hope to find it a good home.
