Description: An Original Melbourne Spurr Photo from the Silent Era: Bryant Washburn. Bryant Washburn (1889 – 1963) was an American actor who began his career in the silent film era. He appeared in more than 370 films between 1911 and 1947. He was able to transition to the “talkies” because of his compelling speaking voice; he was able to make his characters believable. He played the roles of both gentlemen and villains alike. He received many supporting character roles, rather than leading roles as time passed. My grandmother and mother collected film star photos and autographs from their respective eras. I have silent movie star photos left from my grandmother, and film stars from the 1940s and 1950s left from my mom. My mom kept her collection in a scrapbook (and then removed them); and also numbered her photos in the order received. I try to note all signs of pasting, numbers, pinholes, etc. in the description. (The red ebay sign will not be imprinted on the photo; it is a security mark to prevent copying.) This is an original matte, sepia-toned photo of Mr. Washburn. I am assuming that it belonged to my grandmother, rather than my mom. This is a Melbourne Spurr photograph; Mr. Spurr only photographed movie stars for one decade, and that was during the 1920s. The photo does have defects: while facing the photo, the lower left corner is bent; the other three corners display wear; the bottom of the photo has a jagged tear; a define crease/wrinkle appears in the upper right quadrant of the photo. The autograph is remarkably clear and legible. A rare find for a silent movie buff!Be sure to check out my other listings. I am adding items continuously! Thank you!
