Description: Original bookplate, printed for magician James B. Findlay's personal use. Approx: 4 1/8" x 2 5/8" In very good + to near fine condition. James B. Findlay (1904–1973) was a Scottish magician, historian, and avid collector who made significant contributions to the study and preservation of magic. Known for his vast collection of over 6,000 books and pamphlets on magic and conjuring, Findlay became a key figure in the history of magic scholarship. He edited The Thistle, the official magazine of the Scottish Conjurers Association, and contributed to The Sphinx with his column "Scraps from Scotland." Among his notable works were Juggling Through Four Reigns (1945), a memoir of the juggler "Old Malabar," and Scottish Conjuring Bibliography (1951), a comprehensive list of Scottish conjuring literature. Findlay’s dedication to the preservation of magic’s history earned him the prestigious Stanley Collins Memorial Award for Magic Collecting in 1966. His legacy continues to influence both magic historians and collectors today. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and don't forget to check out my other listings.
