Description: ORIGINAL 1990 BARBARA VAN WINKELEN (1919-2010) 'OCTOBER HAULOUT NANTUCKET YACHT CLUB' WATERCOLOR PAINTING This is just a great original piece. I bought this painting without knowing who the artist was. I just thought it was a wonderful painting of a wonderful location. Turns out Barbara Van Winkelen is an important 20th Century artist who ran a gallery on Nantucket for over 30 years. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included her biography below. Her works rarely come to market as I am guessing most of them stay in family collections. I was actually a little surprised to come across this one. And this one might be one of her finest and most desirable. First off, the scene is the Nantucket Yacht Club late in the season. A large watercolor on paper measuring 10 1/2 x 16 1/2 inches. Signed lower right. Painting is in perfect as painted condition. Gorgeous crisp and clean. A matching marbled archival matte and matching frame make for the perfect presentation of this painting. On the back is the original label by the artist with the title of the painting. There is also an original photo of the painting from the artists desk and even the original label from her gallery on Nantucket, Spindrift. Just the complete package and one of the best Nantucket paintings you are going to find. Frame measures 18 3/4 x 23 3/4 inches. For those not familiar with the artist, her biography from askart reads: "Van Winkelen, Barbara Putnam (Hayes) Van Winkelen was born Oct. 25, 1919 in Newton, Massachusetts. Published in 1995, the story was written by Jared Tausig and Eva-Marie Tausig. She designed Christmas plates for 12 years in collaboration with with the well-known decoupagist Leslie Linsley, and did hand-painted boxes, cutting boards, recipe boxes and other items.
