Description: Rare Original Early 19th Century Women's Undergarment, Shift or Chemise made from fine, tightly woven white cotton fabric. Completely hand sewn (as it should be). "Square" cut with low neckline and gusseted sleeves. One side is pieced in both front and back to increase the width, not uncommon on early garments. Front has a placket at neck that closes with a carved freshwater pearl button, these are often seen on men's shirts of the period. It has some of the narrowest seams you will see. The felled ones are only about 1/8" wide. The pieced sections of the body are butt-stitched. In very good condition with no tears or holes. Found in Western New York. Every effort is made to ship the same or the next day upon receiving payment.
