orig. 1982 Vintage Nike Steve Prefontaine Classic *1st-ever PRE CLASSIC POSTER*

Description: >Offered here for your consideration is an old and original 1982 Nike PREFONTAINE CLASSIC track and field meet poster, the very FIRST Pre Classic poster ever issued!! Please see all eleven photos, as they are an important part of my description. This edition of the Pre Classic took place on June 5, 1982 here in Eugene, Oregon at historic Hayward Field. This extremely rare multi-colored poster measures approximately 24" x 18", which features artwork by local Eugene artist Don Person (see 4th pic) who was commissioned to draw a few of the early Pre Classic posters and track meet program covers. The poster features outstanding and extremely colorful abstract art picturing Steve Prefontaine, the former Oregon Ducks distance runner, competing at Hayward Field with the West Grandstand visible along with Eugene's Spencer Butte in the distance. >Participating athletes for this 1982 Pre Classic are listed along the bottom of the poster: Mike Boit, Debbie Brill, Carl Lewis, Henry Marsh, Billy Olson, Henry Rono, Mary Decker Tabb (later Mary Slaney) and Mac Wilkins. This 1982 Prefontaine Classic was sponsored by Nike (see photo #3) and promoted by the University of Oregon and the Oregon Track Club. I have sold two 1982 Pre Classic first-ever posters over the years, and have never seen a 1983 Pre poster; I don't believe one was ever produced. This vintage Nike poster is mega-RARE, is over forty years old and not getting any younger...a HOLY GRAIL piece of Steve Prefontaine memorabilia!! <>Condition: the poster exhibits paper ripples, but is more obvious on the backside than the front (see pics). There are a few scattered areas of light/minor age spotting There are no tack holes or tape marks from prior display! All four corners of the poster are solid! There are no rips or tears present! The poster displays very nicely, and deserves professional framing!
