Description: “COLUMBIA BASIN GUARDIAN”, 1999 SIGNED ORIGINAL MONOTYPE BY AMERICAN ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER BARBARA MASON (b.1945) This color monotype, depicting a stylistic representation of a petroglyph sacred guardian image, was created and hand printed by the Oregon artist Barbara Mason. The monotype is signed in pencil by the artist in the image lower right: Barbara Mason. The artist also titled, dated and signed the monotype in pencil on the verso lower left: Columbia Basin Guardian Summer 1999 Monotype Barbara Mason. A monotype is a unique, one-of-a-kind printmaking technique that results in a single, original art image. This monotype is printed in colors to the edges on wove paper with deckle edge on the bottom, the image and full sheet size measures 8 x 5 7/8 inches. The etching comes unframed. CONDITION: The monotype is in excellent original condition, with no evidence of any damage to the image. Barbara Mason is an artist and printmaker working in her private printmaking studio in Oregon. Barbara’s formal education is from the University of Washington, Oregon College of Arts and Crafts, Portland State University, Pacific Northwest College of Art, and Marylhurst University. She began studying printmaking in the early 80’s and was immediately enamored with the medium. Barbara made viscosity monotypes almost exclusively for 20 years until she discovered Solarplate etching. She has been an enthusiast of this process since 2001 and has taught the process in workshops since 2002. She is a member of the board of Directors for Print Arts Northwest (PAN), the gallery of the Northwest Print Council. She heads the Education Committee for PAN, and is past board president for PAN. Barbara has shown her work nationally and internationally. Her works are in the collections of the Portland Art Museum, Crow’s Shadow Art Institute, the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas, the New York Public Library Collection, the National Museum of Kampala, Uganda, the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette, the Jordan Schnitzer Collection, and numerous corporation and private collections. _______________________________ AUTHENTICITY OF ARTWORK IS GUARANTEED.
