Description: FOR SALE: five-port wireless router/firewall running OpenWrt on Cisco Meraki MX60W hardware. Originally, the device shipped with a proprietary operating system including advanced security features, but the device and the operating system it is running are out of support as of October 24, 2022, so we repurposed the device as a router, firewall, and wireless access point all in one by installing OpenWrt, an open-source firmware for networking equipment. The OpenWrt version installed is 23.05.3, released in March 2024. The device is implemented in a desktop form factor. The case is all-metal, taking design cues from the Mac Mini. The unit is passively cooled and completely quiet. The device runs on an AppliedMicro APM82181 system-on-a-chip (800 MHz) with 512 MB of RAM and 1 GB of Flash memory. The device contains an integrated network interface card with five Gigabit Ethernet ports and an Atheros AR93xx Wireless-N network adapter. During installation, OpenWrt correctly identified the WAN port and automatically configured the four remaining ports to be on the same LAN. The wireless networking has been bridged to the same LAN. (Needless to say, all these settings are changeable.) The buyer will receive detailed configuration notes so the device can be put to work right out of the box. The device can be managed via a Web interface or on the command line via SSH. In our estimation, this device is a good choice for a home or a small business.
