The proprietor of the Nugget Shop was Dr. Robert Simpson's wife, Belle who donated the pole to the city after her husband's death. Totem poles were traditionally used to identify who lived in indigenous coastal villages, including which nation, division, and clan. The story of a pole was often told at the celebration that took place when it was first erected. The story was then passed down to younger members of the clan to educate them.••••• Hi!
