Description: VERY old Kirk & Sons 9.5” Sterling Floral Handled Serving Meat Cheese Knife 96 gms. This is the best Kirk & Sons floral handle I have ever seen. The more modern ones do not have as much definition. However, this older knife shows obvious age and some rust on the blade that was made before stainless blades. I have not tried to clean or polish the knife. You can see that more modern versions of this knife made by Kirk & Sons weigh about 10 grams less than this one does.ATTENTION!A silver dealer saw this listing and sent me the following note describing this knife as an oddity. Here's the note..This is an oddity as it is marked S. Kirk & Son INC. The INC was used from 1924 to 1932. But KIRK was not using the old carbon steel blades at that period, having moved to STAINLESS in 1921. The handle style is very much the KIRK mid to later 1920s form. Perhaps the stainless blade got damaged and the jeweler that the person took it to way back when to have it changed... had an old KIRK blade on hand and offered to swap it out at a lesser fee. This sort of thing happed a lot during WWII when Stainless blades were not available... and people made do with what was available.Weight of the Sterling handle from this period is going to be right around a half ounce (troy) or 19-18 Grams... the rest being the rusted blade, tang and what ever cement the jeweler used on the re-blading.Learn more about STIEFF, KIRK and SCHOFIELD silver and pewter at my site, THESTIEFFCOMPANY.COM I ship quickly.
