Description: "Hawaii - Paradise of the Pacific" envelope mailed from Honolulu on April 2, 1941 to German occupied Oslo Norway. Upon arival in occupied Norway, the envelope was opened and inspected by Obercommando der Wehrmach and resealed with brown paper tape marked "Geöffnet" (=opened) with Third Reich eagle and swastika. The envelope contains a heavy stock 8x8.5 inches card with "Stamps of Old Hawaii" by C. W. Best of 2289 Kamehameaha Ave, Honolulu with "Since 1900, the Hawaiian Islands have been using the stamps of the United States All stamps guarantted genuine" and five used stamps. 1883 red 2 cent Elua Keneta, and the same from 1893 with "Provisional Govt" stamped across. 1893 also blue 2 cent with femal portrait and "Provisional Govt". 1894 yellow one cent with seal depiction and brown two cent with coastal landscape. The letter was sent from Mrs. R.D. Calkins of Brooklyn, NY who was married to Captain U.S. Navy Russel D. Calkins who at the time was stationed in Guam. Mrs. Calkins was my great aunt. She sent the letter to my father who was then 13 years old.
