Description: Old Churches and Meeting-Houses in and Around Philadelphia was written by John T. Faris and published by J. B. Lippincott Company in 1926. This Book is a Hardcover with Dust Jacket measuring 6.125" x 9" with xvi+261 pages.Book DescriptionFrom the dust jacket: "Churches are the real custodians of romance. The quaintest corners of history are tucked away in parish registers and ancient burying grounds. What tales are stored in the serene old churches of Philadelphia that have seen their chimes beaten into bullets for Revolutionary muskets and stood unchanged since Franklin held a pew in Old Buttonwood and Washington came to service at St. Peter's! 'The Philadelphia Steeple Lottery,' 'Hooped Pettycoats and Bare Necks in Disfavor,' 'When the Pine Street Church Saved the Colonies,' 'The Gingerbread Baker of St. Michael's,' 'A Famous Spire that Brought Misfortune,' are a few of their picturesque chronicles. Dr. Faris peoples their quiet pews with the Dunkards, Mennonites, Friends, and early congregations of every sect who sat there long ago, takes one to meeting with William Penn or revives the interest in Queen Anne's leaded glass window and brocaded altar cloth."ConditionThis Book is in Acceptable Condition.
