Description: This listing is for an old mining pick head made by the Hardsocg Manufacturing Company of Ottumwa, IA. Stamped “HARDSOCG” on one side of the head (stamp is slightly illegible) and stamped with a “3” and a “B” on the bottom of the head. Weighs almost 2 pounds 15 ounces and is 15 ¾" in length. Martin Hardsocg, inventor of various mining tools, founded the company in the late 1800s. The company’s tools were of superior quality and their most famous product was the Little Wonder Drill. This drill was used all over the world, from the copper mines in Peru to the diamond mines of South Africa, even helping to build the New York City subway system. This pick head came from an estate sale in Wyoming and its age and history are unknown. Has wear from use and is flecked with something, perhaps paint.
