Description: ARTIST: Thorvald Petersen is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions and exhibited several times. Born on the island of Fyn/Funen, he found most of his motifs here and was referred to as the “Cezanne from Funen”, but even so he also went on study trips to Germany, Austria, Sweden, Norway and Italy. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1920-1926. Besides painting he also worked as a wood carver. His favorite scenes include still-life, interiors, portraits and landscapes. Today a few of his works can be found in Danish art museums. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a wonderful impressionistic rendering of a woman doing the dishes in her kitchen. The beautiful blue colors and the crude brushstrokes in this painting does remind me a little of Cezanne’s works and one can see why Petersen earned his nickname. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1925-1940. Signed: Monogram: “Th P” in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 82 cm/32.3" * 71 cm/28". Without frame: 70,5 cm/27.8" * 59,5 cm/23.4". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches, chips and stains.
