The contoured handle is genuine buffalo horn and it has a brass pommel and bolster. Includes leather scabbard with Chakmak & Karda, small accessory knives traditionally used with the Kukri. This powerful chopping knife is issued to Gurkha Officers in India and is the only Kukri on the market that comes with a copy of the government contract, the ordinance drawing, and spec sheet. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes factory sharp.The accessory knives: The chakmak & karda accessory knives are a traditional part of the kukri. The chakmak has no edge. It is a honing/sharpening tool of hardened “sharpening” steel with a wood handle. This tool is used to is to maintain the kukri edge and ensure it always has a sharp and burr-free edge. The chakmak also makes a great as striker since the spine is flat and rigid. The karda, on the other hand, does have an edge. This little knife is great for detailed tasks such as skinning, carving, or whittling.The scabbard: The scabbard is designed to have a slightly loose fit and is intended to be worn with the blade-tip down. Because of the extreme compound curvature of the blade, a conventional tight fit would make the knife very difficult to remove without cutting through the scabbard and possibly the hand holding it. Additionally, the wood lining in the sheath may absorb moisture and swell in humid conditions; this must be accounted for when the scabbard is made.
