Description: NYC , July 4, 1860 STEREOVIEW BY E. & H. T. ANTHONY. Up for auction is an original E. & H. T. Anthony stereoview circa 1870 labeled on the backmark FOURTH OF JULY IN AND ABOUT NEW YORK No. 429. TROOPS entering the Park from TYRON ROW , JULY 4, 1860, Published by E. H. T. Anthony & Co. 591 Broadway opposite Metropolitan Hotel, New York . This stereoview is in good condition considering its 153 years old but does have some flaws though age related. There is corner edge wear, soiling of front and back of the mount The background above both images have minor foxing but images are sharp, rich albumin tones with good contrast and very good three dimensionality. The right and left image appears to have fading defects in the back of the parade and the crowd but this an original blemish from the printing process and not later damage. This same blemish shows up in same stereoview that is in Getty Museum and Library of Congress collections. The images on the obverse of the mount shows a large crowd on July 4th in Tryon Row watching a parade with the New York State Militia mounted troops and the 79th New York Infantry “ Highlanders “ troops marching past the crowds. This stereoview was originally taking in 1860 by E. Anthony ( before his brother H.T. Anthony became a partner in 1863 ) but was republished again by the Anthony Co. in 1870. Seller’s Note : Please carefully examine the photos to determine the condition of this stereoview.
