Description: This Northern Plains Native American Buffalo Horn Dance Wand is a beautiful piece of art that reflects the rich culture of the United States mid 1800s to early 1900s period. Handmade with care, this wand features intricate beadwork with a central bison or buffalo horn section that secures a pair of deer or antelope horns that add a touch of elegance to any space. The maker used a combination of sinew and sinew sewn leather and braided with various red blue green, and yellow glass seed beads. Turkey feathers were added to sinew dangles that have larger Bohemian glass trade beads along with copper metal conicals that encase the quill. There hand made yellow brass or iron decorative nail heads that assist in securing the striped painted or treated rawhide leather to the wooden shaft along with dark brown to black color horse hair braided into the conicals and quills. Was part of a Bedford, Texas estate where it is clear that this wand was created with the intention of honoring the traditions of Native American culture. The wand is 22 inches in height and is perfect for use in traditional dances or as a decorative item in any home. Its unique design and attention to detail make it a must-have for collectors of Native American artifacts. Whether you are a member of the Northern Plains American Indian tribe or simply appreciate the beauty of this piece, this buffalo horn dance wand is a valuable addition to any collection. Condition is fair but mostly intact with some material loss of horse hair and feathers. There has been damage to feathers due to extreme age and handing over the past 150+ years.. We secured one broken feather by splicing in a stainless steel sewing needle and adding a few drops of glue. One of the deer or antelope horns wiggles in the bison horn socket where dark gray pitch has fallen out or the seal was broken: we have chosen not to do anything to the antler socket as it would be better to leave as is or have a professional restoration expert like Dr. Gomer work on this. Will package carefully and double box to protect.
