Description: North Dakota State 3x5 Flag - 150 Denier Nylon North Dakota State 3x5 Flag - 150 Denier Nylon Official North Dakota State Flag 1911 Present The state flag of North Dakota was officially adopted by the legislature and signed into law on March 11, 1911. The design is identical to the flag carried by the First North Dakota Infantry during the Spanish–American War (April 21 – August 13, 1898) and the Philippine–American War (February 4, 1899 July 2, 1902). The artwork also looks very much like the Great Seal of the United States. The blue background color was not specified at the time of adoption in 1911, however, the North Dakota Legislative Assembly amended the original flag code in 1943 so that the same shade of blue on the original military banner is required for the North Dakota State flag. The original First North Dakota Infantry is on display at the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck. The flag design consists of an eagle with outspread wings and an opened beak in the center of a blue background. A scroll bearing the words E Pluribus Unum is shown passing through the open beak of the eagle. A second scroll with the words North Dakota appears just beneath the eagle. The left foot of the eagle is shown holding a sheaf of arrows, while the right foot is grasping an olive branch with three red berries. On the eagles breast is a gold-outlined shield with a blue field at the top and thirteen alternating red and white vertical stripes on the lower two-thirds portion of the shield. Thirteen gold five-pointed stars appear above the eagles head in two arched rows and finally, a golden sunburst in the same arc curve as the rows of stars is just above, thus completing the design. The artwork is visible on both sides of the flag and the lettering reads correctly from one side only.
