Description: Noritake Sugar Shaker & Tall Creamer Japan 1924-1939 HP Art Deco Cubist Floral NORITAKE Exquisite Decorative CONDIMENT SET w/CREAMER & TALL SUGAR SHAKER, Hand Painted ART DECO CUBIST Pattern w/GOLD & LUSTERWARE, Noritake Company in Noritake, Japan, circa 1924-1939 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted set consists of a tall creamer & sugar shaker. These were produced in the art deco cubist pattern. The color palette is simple: lusterware orange, yellow, blue, black on white w/gold. The sections are separated by bold black trim. The hand painted floral panels are multicolored and so striking. The design looks so classically art deco. The shaker top is painted in a solid gold as is the creamer handle. The cork is still in the bottom of the sugar shaker. CONDITION: While this decorative set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks and only very minor age appropriate wear on the gold. The holes on the shaker appear to be perfect. DIMENSIONS: The shaker is 5 7/8" in height with a maximum width of 2 1/4". The height of the creamer is 6 1/8". The measurement from handle to spout is 4" with a maximum diameter of 2 3/8". HISTORY/MARKS: The items are marked on the bottom with the the Cherry Blossom mark in red. Most condiment sets are not marked. Noritake was formed by Morimura Bros. trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. This set is from a Noritake subcontracterNoritake Subcontractor as noted in the Marks4ceramics website as mark #554 used 1921-1939 for items imported to USA. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain calls this the Cherry Blossom Mark in red used starting in 1924. That sets the circa for this in the 1924-1939 time period.
