I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE TWO BRAND NEW (DEAD STOCK) PAIRS THREE YEARS AGO DIRECTLY THROUGH THE U OF O ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT DURING AN ATHLETIC SURPLUS SALE THAT SEASON TICKET HOLDERS/DONORS WERE GIVEN PRIORITY VIP ACCESS TO ATTEND. In 2017, this pair of White (Pure Money) AJXXX1’s with a special retro patch designed by Tinker Hatfield were released as a PE (Player Exclusive) for the University of Oregon Track and Field team. There was a very limited number of these pairs ever created, and Nike never made any pairs available for the general public to purchase. This special patch was only ever featured on the left foot tongue of these white-based “Pure Money” Air Jordan 31 Low “Oregon”, and on the left foot tongue of the Air Jordan 12 Retro Low “Playoffs". Here is what Tinker Hatfield said back in 2017 regarding the inspiration and the origin behind this very special patch. ……. "The patch was created when I was a sophomore Sprinter, Hurdler and Pole Vaulter on the University of Oregon Track Team in 1972. At that time I was approached by a group of Black Student Union members who were also Sprinters, Jumpers and Hurdlers on the U of O Track Team. I was a known artist and designer and a team member and as such was asked by the guys to design a meaningful image for them. I was honored to do so and proceeded to design and draw up an image that could be embroidered and then stitched on to various Track Uniform items. When shown the design the entire team voted unanimously that the image of a white duck and a black duck crossing the finish line together become part of the 'Branding' of the U of O Track Team. We found an actual patch from the era and proceeded to re-create it and apply it to the new Jordan's that you've just received.
