Golfing At The Disneyland Hotel It’s hard to imagine today with the area so jam packed, but in the 50s and 60s, the Disneyland Hotel had breathing room. And much of that space was set aside for golf. Between the driving range, 3-par course, and 18-hole mini golf, guests could enjoy some quiet time outside of the bustling park. Opening in 1961, the mini golf course drew inspiration from Disneyland itself. Some of the most memorable miniatures included the castle, Matterhorn, and Mickey himself. As the area surrounding the hotel (and the hotel itself) grew and developed, real estate became more and more valuable. By the 70s, the hotel needed space for new towers (and more parking). The mini golf course finally closed in 1978, marking the end of the “original hotel” era the start of the “tower” era.
