Description: New-Old-Stock Shimano 105 7-Speed Index Shifters with Gray Enamel Finish...Braze-On Model Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This offering is for one set of new-old-stock Shimano 105 index (or SIS) capable shifters (Model SL-1055 in the braze-on model). This is a good quality early to mid 90's shifter set that is generally considered the entry point for Shimano competition-level shifter sets. Some of the detailed specs include... Index shifting compatibility: 7-speed (with Shimano branded or compatible freewheel/cassette) Friction shifting compatibility: Several options (most 5/6/7 speed freewheels/cassettes) Mounting bracket/spacers: Braze-on model w/curved spacers (refer to discussion below) Weight: 90 grams (including mounting hardware and cables...just as pictured) Other notes: The left-side shifter is designed for friction-mode only, so it should be compatible with most double/triple cranksets. The levers have an all alloy body with the traditional gray enamel finish that was commonplace for the Shimano 105 components throughout most of the 90's (until the introduction of the Shimano 105 9-speed groupset in 1999...when the finish became a polished/shiny silver). For those that are interested, these 7-speed down tube shifters were first introduced in 1990 and available through 1992. In 1993, Shimano upgraded their 105 drivetrain to 8-speeds and rolled out these 8-speed version of these down tube shifters that remained in current production until 1998. As for condition, the few sets we have available are new and unused, but the plastic bag packaging coming from the wholesaler was not as good as we would've liked. More specifically, each shifter set was loosely packaged in a single plastic bag, which has created some shopwear (small scuffs and scratches) in the gray finish (on the lever bodies). We have taken the time to re-pack each shifter set, so that further shopwear is avoided, but please keep in mind there will be some cosmetic scuffing and scratches on each of these shifter sets. Also, each set includes shifter cables (but no cable housing) and mounting hardware...although please refer to the note below for more specific details concerning the mounting hardware. Listing Update...I wanted to confirm that we have updated the pictures to reflect the next shifter set that will sell/ship and I can confirm this set shows well (with only minor shopwear-type marks). Down tube spacer discussion... If you look closely at the pictures, and particularly those that show a close-up of the mounting hardware, you will notice the two bolts and spacers/adapters used to mount the levers on the frame's down tube shifter bosses. The bolts are the relatively standard M5's (so 5 mm sizing). While the spacers have a curved profile, which means they are compatible with vintage steel frames with the smaller down tubes (relative to some of the oversized down tubes made from other materials). More specifically, the curve in these spacers/adapters seats very well around a 28.6 mm steel down tube at the shifter bosses...resulting in a nice/clean look with mounted shifters. The one additional mounting specification worthy of mention is the square-shaped mounting platform on the inside of these spacers. This square-shaped platform measures 12 mm x 12 mm and should also be recognizable at the base of braze-on bosses (on a frame down tube) to ensure this shifter set will seat properly once the mounting bolts are tightened. I should also mention this square-shaped platform is generally considered the most common of the down tube mounting platforms (and sometimes referred to as the Italian type/design, as a result of its origins). There may be other applications where these curved spacers will seat fairly well, but the vintage steel frames are the best example we've noted from our own experience. Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
