Description: Captain Isaac Bowen, West Point Class of 1838 served with distinction in the War with Mexico, winning brevets for the Battles at Monterey and Vera Cruz. In 1851 he helped build historic Fort Union, New Mexico. ( His wife Catharine Carey Bowen's letter give a vivid portrait of their life at the new post). An Original Mexican War US Army invoice for mules and horse gear received by Bowen at Monterrey, Mexico, June 20, 1848. The 1p list on blue paper is signed by Bowen as Acting Asst Quartermaster. Captain Bowen died in the Service in 1858. and is buried at Cayuga, New York.
