It is waterproof, to a depth of 2 meters (6 feet) for 30 minutes. This is achieved with tight seals around the display, keyboard, doors, and external buttons. However, repeated opening of the charging/data port cover may cause it to lose the ability to be water-tight.In addition, charging the phone through the data port requires connect and disconnect of the charging cable, every time. Thus, the door and the tiny data contacts can become compromised...eventually causing water to leak through the cover. Also, the data contacts will eventually wear down and no longer provide a good data connection. The data port is the only way to connect your phone to a computer, If the data port goes bad, USB access to the phone is gone. It's better to leave the data port sealed and avoid wear and tear on those tiny USB data port contacts by charging the phone using this cradle. This will leave the sealed data port on the phone intact. The cradle also can charge a second battery via an external port on the side of the cradle body.
