The JFK Half Dollar contained silver from 1964-1970. In 1971, the coin was switched to a copper and nickel composition. The reverse of the JFK Half Dollar was designed by Gilroy Roberts and the obverse by Frank Gasparro. The coin was immensely popular with the public and sold out the first date it was offered for sale. Beginning in 2002, the JFK Half Dollar was minted only for collectors and was no longer handed out for circulation. The coin has been minted at Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco mints. The Philadelphia mint did not display the P mint mark until 1980. The JFK Mint Mark Collection Series is housed in a protective sealed acrylic case and will vary in mintage years. The Series contains one coin minted from Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco for a total of three JFK Half Dollars. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
