Description: Featured in this auction is a gorgeous little cabinet vase made by Rookwood Pottery. The vase is in excellent, near-perfect condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no repairs. This piece is 3-3/4" tall, 4" wide at the shoulder, and almost 2-1/2" wide at the top rim opening. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 6432 and the production year XXXV (1935). The vase features a decorative arts-and-crafts design with stems of African violets encircling the piece. This gorgeous underglaze is a matte dusty rose or pink with a green overspray that has curdled beautifully on the shoulder of the vase. There are areas of very-light peppering in the glaze (as made). This glaze color combination was one of the most popular that Rookwood produced in the 1920s and into the 1930s. So often, I see this vase design produced in the 1940s or 1950s with a high-gloss finish. This example from 1935 shows how beautiful the mold detail can be with a more subtle matte finish. The vase is presumed to have been gently used; however, the vase is very clean both inside and out. Stilt marks are barely visible on the base. Check out all 8 photos! This gorgeous vase would look amazing in your favorite display cabinet. It would also be perfect for any Rookwood or American art pottery collector. Check out my other pottery listings!
