Description: An island on the Equator in the west central Pacific Ocean, Nauru is midway between the Marshall and Solomon Islands. The island, a German possession, was captured by Australian forces in 1914 and, following WWI, was mandated to the British Empire. It was administered jointly by Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. On January 31, 1968, Nauru became a republic. These issues use Great Britain Stamps of 1912-13 overprinted at bottom of stamp NAURU. The 1-1/2 p (Sc #3) is the gem in this lot, well centered and with nice cancel marks.
